Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Yellow cones
  • Balls
Setup
  1. Area: 30 yards between two gates marked with cones
  2. Group: 2 players split into two equal lines of 1, each line positioned directly behind one gate, 30 yards apart, each player holding a ball
  3. Equipment: 4 yellow cones forming two gates (2 cones per gate), one gate at each end of the 30-yard area, plus one ball per player in each line
Instructions
  1. The first player in each line takes a first touch through the gate.
  2. After controlling the ball, they pass to the first player in the opposite line.
  3. The passer follows their pass to join the end of the opposite line.
  4. The receiving player repeats the control and pass sequence.
  5. Emphasize quality of touch, pass, and communication throughout the drill.
Coaching Points
  • Good first touch to control ball momentum
  • Keep head up for spatial awareness

Variations
Make it harder:

3. Mandate using weaker foot for both control and passing.
Make it easier:
1. Decrease the distance between the cones to 20 yards.
2. Allow two touches before passing to ensure control.
3. Remove the requirement to pass through the gate initially.
