Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Balls (one per dribbler)
  • Cones for marking the grid
Setup
  1. Area: 20x20 yard grid marked with cones
  2. Team Red: 1 red outfield player (dribbler) starts inside the grid with a ball, spaced evenly across the area
  3. Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player (donkey) starts spread out inside the grid without a ball
  4. Equipment: 4 cones marking the corners of the 20x20 yard grid, 1 ball per dribbler
Instructions
  1. On the coach's signal, dribblers move around the grid keeping control of their ball.
  2. Donkeys attempt to kick dribblers' balls out of the grid.
  3. A dribbler stands still when their ball is out until all balls are out.
  4. Swap roles between dribblers and donkeys after each round.
  5. Track which group keeps the balls inside the grid for the longest time.
Coaching Points
  • Encourage all players consistently.
  • Maintain awareness of space and movement within the grid.
  • Focus on close ball control and using different foot parts.
  • Promote enjoyment and engagement.
  • Allow game flow to guide learning.
  • Adapt the pace of dribbling as needed.
  • Balance challenge to players' skills levels.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the grid.
2. Allow donkeys to work in pairs.
3. Time limit to knock all balls out.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the grid size.
2. Limit donkey movement to walking only.
3. Allow dribblers to re-enter the game after a set time if their ball is knocked out.
