Equipment
- Cones to mark the 20x20 area
- Four markers to create 1-yard gates
- Enough balls for each group
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
- Group: 4 players start spaced evenly around the perimeter of the area, positioned to move clockwise around it
- Equipment: Cones marking the 20x20 area, 4 markers forming four 1-yard gates placed randomly within the area, 1 ball for the group
Instructions
- Players pass the ball to each other, ensuring it passes through a gate.
- Players must use their first touch to direct the ball through the gate.
- Players should check away before receiving the ball to simulate match scenarios.
- After a set time, reverse the direction of play.
- Add more balls to increase pace and difficulty for advanced players.
- With larger groups, create additional grids and let groups compete for speed.
- Introduce random direction changes to test player reactions and adaptability.
Coaching Points
- Make quick decisions both on and off the ball.
- Use a quality first touch.
- Keep your head up to assess options.
- Deliver accurate, timely, and well-disguised passes.
- Choose appropriate passing techniques.
- Stay light on your feet and maintain good body shape.
- Communicate effectively with teammates.
- Receive the ball on the back foot.
- Keep the ball moving at all times.
- Use both feet for passes and control.
- Address any technical shortfalls in passing and control.

Variations
Make it harder:
1. Introduce two balls to increase the speed of play.
2. Decrease gate size to challenge passing accuracy.
3. Add a time limit for passing through each gate.
Make it easier:
1. Increase gate size to simplify pass-throughs.
2. Allow players to take two touches initially.
3. Reduce playing area size to limit movement required.
