Setup
- Area: 30x30 yard square marked with cones
- Team Red: 1 red outfield player starts inside the square, plus 2 red target players positioned on two opposite sides of the square, restricted to lateral movement along their side only
- Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player starts inside the square holding the first ball, plus 2 blue target players positioned on the remaining two opposite sides of the square, restricted to lateral movement along their side only
- Equipment: cones marking the four corners of the 30x30 yard square, balls used for passing within the area
Instructions
- The blue target player starts by passing to a teammate inside the area.
- The team connects passes to reach the opposite target player.
- Scoring occurs when the ball is passed to a target player on the opposite side.
- The passer swaps positions with the target player who receives their pass.
- Upon gaining possession, the opposing team can pass to either of their target players.
- Two points are awarded if the ball is transferred across and returned to the original target player.
- Adjust team sizes to create overloads or underloads (e.g., 4v2).
Coaching Points
- Ensure effective communication among players.
- Maintain good angles and distances for support.
- Focus on first touch control.
- Keep head up to assess options.
- Encourage dynamic off-ball movement.
- Deliver accurate, timely, and cleverly disguised passes.
- Provide quick support to the player with the ball.
- Maintain an open body shape for receiving.
- Prioritize forward passes without forcing them.
- Assess pass selection and execution closely.
- Consider passing angles and distances.
- Decide when to pass to feet or space.
- Observe from outside to identify improvements.
- Reinforce the pass and move principle.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the playing area to increase difficulty.
2. Play with fewer players to create more pressure.
3. Allow only one touch for inside players before passing.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the playing area for more space.
2. Use three target players to offer more passing options.
3. Allow two touches for better control and decision making.
