Equipment
- Cones for marking boundaries and Home squares
- Multiple soccer balls
- Timer or stopwatch
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones, with a 3-yard square in each corner marked as Home
- Group: 1 player starts standing on the perimeter of the area
- Equipment: Cones marking the boundary of the 20x20 yard area, cones marking a 3-yard Home square in each corner, multiple soccer balls scattered in the center of the area, timer or stopwatch used by the coach
Instructions
- On coach's signal, players run to the center to collect a ball.
- Players dribble the ball to one of the 'Home' squares.
- Use both feet to control the ball.
- Players race against the clock to complete the task.
- Repeat the process and encourage players to improve their time.
Coaching Points
- Encourage players consistently.
- Promote spatial awareness in the playing area.
- Focus on close ball control.
- Use various parts of the foot to dribble.
- Maintain age-appropriate and engaging activities.
- Facilitate the session rather than over-coaching.
- Ensure all players actively participate and enjoy the game.
- Focus on the enjoyment and learning through play.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Decrease the size of the 'Home' squares.
2. Limit the use of the dominant foot only.
3. Introduce a defender to challenge players.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the 'Home' squares.
2. Allow players to walk instead of run while dribbling.
3. Allow the use of hands to carry the ball to 'Home'.
