Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones to establish a 20x20 meter grid
  • One ball per pair
Setup
  1. Area: 22x22 yard area marked with cones
  2. Team Red: 3 red outfield players start paired opposite a blue player, spaced evenly across the grid as defenders
  3. Team Blue: 3 blue outfield players start paired opposite a red player, spaced evenly across the grid in possession of the ball
  4. Equipment: cones marking the corners of the 22x22 yard grid, one ball per pair (3 balls total) placed with each pair
Instructions
  1. Each pair starts in a designated area within the grid.
  2. Begin the 60-second duel with one player in possession.
  3. The player in possession aims to maintain control under pressure.
  4. The defender attempts to gain possession by intercepting or applying pressure.
  5. After 60 seconds, award a point to the player in possession.
  6. At the end of each round, rotate pairs to ensure diverse matchups.
  7. Keep cumulative scores over the five rounds.
Coaching Points
  • Maintain close ball control under pressure.
  • Employ quick decision-making and anticipate opponent moves.
  • Use body positioning effectively to shield the ball.
  • Deploy feints and direction changes to evade defenders.
  • Balance on toes for rapid reactions.
  • Execute strong, controlled touches to retain possession.
  • Encourage communication and foster positive competition.
  • Observe player fatigue and ensure proper warm-ups.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the space of the playing area to increase pressure.
2. Introduce a time limit for gaining possession to quicken play.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the playing area to reduce pressure.
2. Allow players an initial touch without pressure to boost confidence.
