Equipment
- Cones to mark the area and square
- Two small gates
- Balls
Setup
- Area: 40x30 yard area marked with cones
- Goals: One small gate centred on each end line of the area
- Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player lined up outside the central square, ready to enter from one side
- Team Red: 1 red outfield player lined up outside the central square, ready to enter from the opposite side
- Coach: 1 grey coach positioned at the side of the area with balls ready to pass into the central square
- Equipment: Cones marking the outer 40x30 area and the central 10x10 yard square, two small gates positioned at each end of the area
Instructions
- Coach passes the ball into the square.
- One player from each team enters the square to play 1v1.
- Players aim to dribble through the opponent's gate to score.
- Set a short timer for each 1v1 battle to maintain intensity.
- After scoring or time expiry, players return to their line, and the next players enter.
Coaching Points
- Use disguise and deception.
- Take a good first touch to control the ball.
- Keep head up to improve awareness.
- Show a positive attitude while attacking.
- Use quick acceleration to beat the defender.
- Utilize 1v1 skills and individual attacking techniques.
- Create space by using body position and movement.
- Maintain strength on the ball under pressure.
- Be ready to change direction if needed.
- Encourage free expression with feints and tricks.
- Dribble confidently with close control.
- Develop the ability to use both feet effectively.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Decrease the size of the central square to increase pressure.
2. Use a countdown clock to encourage faster decision making.
3. Introduce additional defenders to challenge attacker's skill.
Make it easier:
1. Enlarge the central square to allow more space.
2. Remove one gate to simplify scoring.
3. Allow the attacker to start closer to the defender's gate, reducing the distance they need to dribble.
