Setup
- Area: 50x40 yard area divided into three zones with the middle zone slightly wider, marked with cones.
- Goals: One small goal centred on each end line.
- Team Red: 5 red outfield players start with 4 in the middle zone and 1 positioned on the sideline of the middle zone.
- Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line of the red team's small goal.
- Team Blue: 5 blue outfield players start with 4 in the middle zone and 1 positioned on the sideline of the middle zone.
- Team Blue GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line of the blue team's small goal.
- Equipment: Cones marking the 50x40 yard area and the boundaries of the three zones.
Instructions
- Teams compete in a 4v4 match within the middle zone.
- Players pass to their teammate positioned on the sideline of the middle zone.
- The sideline player dribbles down the line, then crosses into the area around the goal quickly.
- Players in the middle zone break towards the goal to meet the cross.
- Goalkeepers must claim crosses assertively and deal with balls into the box.
Coaching Points
- Use proper crossing technique.
- Catch high balls at their peak.
- Jump off one foot.
- Communicate clearly and loudly.
- Approach crosses at a slight angle.
- Anticipate the flight and speed of the ball.
- Position into the ball's line effectively.
- Engage with positive take-off and collection.
- Stay light on feet for positioning.
- Master varied handling techniques for different situations.
- Employ good footwork for lateral and backward movement.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the playing area to increase pressure on players.
2. Limit the number of touches allowed for sideline players before crossing.
3. Increase the number of attackers in the middle zone to outnumber defenders.
Make it easier:
1. Enlarge the playing area for more space and time.
2. Allow multiple touches for sideline players before crossing.
3. Use additional defenders to balance attacking moves in the middle zone.
