Equipment
- Balls (one per player)
- Cones to define the 20x20 yard area
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard square marked with cones
- Group: 8 players, positioned 2 per side on each of the 4 sides of the square (sides numbered 1 to 4), each with a ball
- Equipment: 1 ball per player; cones marking the corners of the 20x20 yard square
Instructions
- The coach calls out two opposite side numbers, e.g., 1 and 3.
- Players from the called sides run with their ball across the square.
- Players should keep their heads up while running to avoid collisions.
- Players stop the ball on the opposite side's line.
Coaching Points
- Use laces for ball control while running.
- Focus on quality technique and minimal touches.
- Move quickly to exploit spaces.
- Maintain a good first touch out of feet.
- Keep head up while running.
- Differentiate running with the ball from dribbling to maximize space.
- Recognize when to exploit created space.
- Improve spatial awareness and decision-making on when to speed up.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the size of the playing area.
2. Add defenders to challenge players.
Make it easier:
1. Decrease the size of the playing area.
2. Allow players to jog instead of run.
