Equipment
- Balls (1 per outside player)
- Cones to mark 20x20 yard area
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
- Team Red: 1 red outfield player starts on the perimeter of the area, each holding a ball
- Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player starts inside the playing area without a ball
- Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 20x20 yard area, 1 ball per outside (red) player
Instructions
- Outside players throw the ball to inside players.
- Inside players receive the ball and pass it to an unoccupied outside player.
- Inside players try to receive and pass as many balls as possible within one minute.
- Rotate groups after one minute of work.
- Maintain awareness to avoid collisions and focus on quality technical execution.
Coaching Points
- Ensure quality and speed in passing.
- Increase intensity to leave comfort zone and stimulate adaptation.
- Regularly assess workload and recovery needs.
- Adapt session based on player fatigue and fitness levels.
- Encourage situational awareness and spatial understanding.
- Plan rests to prevent overtraining and burnout.
- Keep training football-specific and relevant.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce rest time between rotations.
2. Narrow the playing area to increase pressure.
3. Increase the duration each group is in the middle.
Make it easier:
1. Increase rest time between rotations.
2. Widen the playing area for more space.
3. Allow a controlled touch before passing to outside players.
