Equipment
- 1 ball per player
- Cones to mark a 20x20 yard area
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
- Group: 1 black outfield player (minimum, one per ball) spaced evenly within the area, each with a ball
- Equipment: cones marking the corners/boundary of the 20x20 yard area, 1 ball per player
Instructions
- Players dribble freely within the area, maintaining close ball control.
- When ready, use the sole of the foot to drag the ball behind the body, turning 180 degrees.
- Players spin on their standing foot and continue dribbling with the opposite foot.
- Progress from practicing stationary execution, then dribbling, and finally integrating speed and fakes.
- Challenge decision-making by practicing in small-sided games.
Coaching Points
- Maintain close control of the ball
- Use disguise to deceive opponents
- Keep head up to observe surroundings
- Accelerate after turning
- Master technique using both feet
- Bend knees slightly for better balance
- Practice timing of the move
- Gradually increase speed and fluency
- Apply moves in 1v1 situations
- Develop spatial awareness during the move
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the playing area to increase pressure.
2. Introduce defenders to apply pressure.
3. Increase the speed of the exercise by setting time limits.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the playing area for more space.
2. Practice the move without opposition.
3. Allow more time for each stage of skill acquisition.
