Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Two poles
  • Several soccer balls
  • Goal
Setup
  1. Area: Six-yard box area
  2. Goals: One goal, centred on the goal line, with the six-yard box in front of it
  3. Group GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned centrally between the two poles on the edge of the six-yard box
  4. Coach: 1 grey coach positioned outside the box with balls ready for service
  5. Equipment: 2 poles placed on the edge of the six-yard box, equidistant from the goal centre; several soccer balls with the coach
Instructions
  1. The coach calls 'right' or 'left', prompting the goalkeeper to move quickly around the indicated pole.
  2. The goalkeeper returns to the central starting position.
  3. The coach serves the ball towards the goal for the goalkeeper to save.
  4. Repeat the sequence, varying the direction and type of service.
Coaching Points
  • Maintain correct footwork and technique.

  • Position hands early before handling the ball.
  • Execute explosive movements for quick positioning.
  • Keep arms straight when preparing to save.

Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the speed and variation of ball serves.
2. Reduce the recovery time between each round.
3. Introduce one-touch saves.
Make it easier:
1. Use slower ball serves for easier handling.
2. Allow more recovery time between drills.
3. Start without directional calls and progress gradually.
