Equipment
- - Marked pitch area
- - Soccer balls

- - Cones or markers
Setup
- Area: Corner area marked to the width of the penalty box
- Goals: One large goal on the goal line at the near post side of the marked corner area
- Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line
- Team Blue: 3 blue outfield players start inside the 6-yard box acting as interference
- Coach: 1 grey server positioned at the corner arc with a supply of soccer balls
- Equipment: Cones marking the corner area boundary extending to the width of the penalty box
Instructions
- The server delivers a variety of crosses from a stationary ball, either swinging, thrown, or kicked.
- Players in the box challenge for the ball, while the goalkeeper attempts to collect it.
- Repeat the drill from both sides, altering the types of crosses.
- Coaches observe and provide feedback to refine skills and decision-making.
Coaching Points
- Maintain an athletic set position with forward body weight.
- Reach high balls at their peak with confidence.
- Make early and decisive movements.
- Expand your presence in the goal.
- Continuously assess the ball's flight path.
- Strong and positive take-offs.
- Command the area vocally and with authority.
- Use agile footwork for effective positioning.
- Understand the proximity of the goalposts.
- Focus on timing and coordination when collecting the ball.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the number of interference players in the box.
2. Vary the type and speed of crosses.
3. Allow players to actively challenge the goalkeeper.
Make it easier:
1. Reduce the number of interference players.
2. Start with only one type of predictable cross.
3. Allow the goalkeeper to handle the ball with minimal challenge.
