Equipment
  • Cones
  • Small goals
  • Bibs
  • Footballs
Setup
  1. Area: 50x40 yard area divided into thirds using cones
  2. Goals: One small goal centred on each end line
  3. Team Red: 4 red outfield players start spaced evenly across the central third
  4. Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned in the central third alongside their outfield players
  5. Team Blue: 4 blue outfield players start spaced evenly across the central third
  6. Team Blue GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned in the central third alongside their outfield players
  7. Equipment: Cones marking the 50x40 field boundary and the two lines dividing it into thirds, one small goal on each end line, red and blue bibs for team identification, footballs for play
Instructions
  1. Teams play 4v4 in the middle third aiming for through balls into the final third.
  2. Offensive players can enter the final third to attempt scoring.
  3. Only one defender may chase into the final third.
  4. Implement the offside rule to ensure timing of runs.
  5. Reset positions after each goal or ball out of play.
Coaching Points
  • Encourage clear communication among players.
  • Maintain supportive angles and distances.
  • Focus on rapid decision-making.
  • Ensure a good first touch and keep head up.
  • Motion to create space and open passing lanes.
  • Commit to scoring with a positive attitude.
  • Quick support and transition in attack.
  • Assess passing lanes and player's body orientation.
  • Timing and precision in pass execution.
  • Encourage creativity without forcing passes.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the playing area.
2. Allow two defenders to follow into the final third.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the playing area.
2. Remove the offside rule.
3. Allow multiple attackers to enter the final third.
