Setup
- Area: 30x40 yard area marked with cones
- Goals: One goal at one end, marked by cones inside the posts
- Team Red: 2 red outfield players start near the goal, ready to enter play as defenders when called
- Team Blue: 3 blue outfield players start inside the playing area, ready to attack the goal
- Equipment: Cones marking the 30x40 yard area boundary, cones placed inside the goalposts to mark the scoring target, balls for attackers to start play
Instructions
- The coach calls out the number of defenders.
- Attackers advance with one more player than defenders (e.g., 3v2).
- Attackers aim to score between the goalposts and markers.
- Use teamwork to exploit numerical advantages and score.
- Defenders aim to win possession and clear the ball.
Coaching Points
- Communicate effectively among teammates.
- Maintain optimal angles and distances for support.
- Control the ball with a good first touch and keep your head up.
- Move strategically to create space and opportunities.
- Display a positive mindset towards scoring.
- Execute quality and varied passes (accurate, timed, disguised).
- Offer quick support in attack.
- Avoid forcing play and keep the ball moving.
- Play with speed and confidence in passing.
- Focus on execution and weight of passes.
- Cultivate technical excellence in all actions.
- Strike early at goal when possible.
- Ensure the player with the ball has passing options with clear sight and decisions.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the number of defenders.
2. Reduce the size of the playing area to increase pressure.
3. Restrict attackers to one or two touches.
Make it easier:
1. Decrease the number of defenders.
2. Increase the size of the playing area for more space.
3. Allow attackers unlimited touches.
