Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones for the boundaries and diamond
  • Soccer balls
Setup
  1. Area: 30x30 yard square area marked with cones
  2. Group: 2 black players spaced evenly around the diamond's edge, with 1 holding a ball and 1 without
  3. Equipment: 4 cones marking the corners of the 30x30 yard square, 4 additional cones marking a 10x10 yard diamond in the centre, soccer balls with the ball-carrying player(s)
Instructions
  1. Players with a ball dribble into the diamond.
  2. Inside, complete a skill, trick, or turn, then dribble out.
  3. Pass to a player without a ball and swap roles.
  4. Continue the drill, encouraging variety in movement.
Coaching Points
  • Keep close control of the ball
  • Make quick decisions on dribbling action
  • Execute a quality turn with proper technique
  • Maintain a positive attitude and be willing to experiment
  • Use disguise and clever movements
  • Keep your head up to observe options
  • Focus on the end product: passing, shooting, or dribbling
  • Develop confidence in dribbling with both feet
  • Quickly exploit space with the ball
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the diamond to increase difficulty.
2. Add a defender inside the diamond to apply pressure.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the diamond for more space.
2. Allow players more time to execute skills inside the diamond.
