Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • 4 small goals
  • Multiple soccer balls
  • Cones to mark a 15x15 yard area
Setup
  1. Area: 15x15 yard area marked with cones
  2. Goals: 4 small goals, one centred on each side of the square
  3. Team Red: 2 red outfield players (defenders) start inside the square, positioned centrally to contest possession
  4. Team Blue: 2 blue outfield players (attackers) start inside the square, spaced apart near the middle
  5. Coach: 1 grey coach positioned on the sideline with a supply of balls to feed the first pass to an attacker
  6. Equipment: 4 cones marking the corners of the 15x15 yard square, 4 small goals placed at the midpoint of each side
Instructions
  1. The drill begins with the coach passing a ball to one of the attackers.
  2. Attackers must work together to score in any of the four goals.
  3. Defenders aim to regain possession and prevent the attackers from scoring.
  4. A new ball is restarted by the coach after a goal is scored or possession changes.
  5. Rotate player roles after a set time period.
Coaching Points
  • Encourage ongoing communication among players.
  • Focus on a quality first touch.
  • Maintain awareness with heads up during play.
  • Initiate passes into space.
  • Demonstrate effective movement and support angles.
  • Utilize accurate and well-timed passes.
  • Select appropriate pass techniques considering distance and disguise.
  • Attackers should coordinate to deceive defenders.
  • Continuously scan the field to identify opportunities and threats.
  • Use a suitable controlling surface to maintain possession.
  • Emphasize decision-making for optimal scoring opportunities.
  • Encourage confident ball control and comfort during reception.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce space to 12x12 yards to increase challenge.
2. Add an additional defender to heighten defensive pressure.
3. Limit attackers to only two touches each.
Make it easier:
1. Increase area size to 18x18 yards to provide more space.
2. Permit attackers unlimited touches for ease of play.
3. Introduce a neutral player to aid attackers.
