- One goal and goalkeeper
- Soccer balls
- Cones or markers for boundaries
Setup
- Area: Half pitch or smaller area marked with cones
- Goals: One goal with goalkeeper at one end of the area
- Team Red: 3 red defenders positioned centrally in front of the goal, ready to defend the overload
- Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line
- Team Blue: 4 blue attackers spaced across the width of the area at the halfway line of the playing zone, including wingers 7 and 11 wide and striker 10 central
- Coach: 1 grey server (number 8) positioned centrally just behind the attacking line to initiate passes
- Equipment: Cones or markers outlining the half-pitch boundary
Instructions
- Server 8 initiates play by passing to either winger 7 or 11.
- Defenders B and C prevent attackers from turning while A provides balance.
- Alternatively, server 8 can pass to striker 10.
- Defender A closes down striker 10 while B and C make recovery runs.
- If defenders win the ball, pass back to server 8 to resume practice.
Coaching Points
- Ensure effective communication amongst defenders and goalkeeper.
- Maintain concentration and good defensive body shape (low, side-on).
- Make play predictable and press the nearest opponent.
- Use patience to decide the right moment to win the ball.
- Study recovery lines and tracking runs if attackers get beyond midfield.
- Focus on ball-oriented defending and covering.
- Support pressing defender with appropriate angles and distances.
- Effective communication from rear players regarding opposition movements.
- Work with GK to act as a sweeper.
- Press the player on the ball to delay the attack.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Add an additional attacker to increase overload.
2. Reduce the pitch size to increase pressure on defenders.
Make it easier:
1. Remove one attacker to lessen the overload.
2. Increase the pitch size for more space to operate.
