Equipment
  • Balls
  • Cones
Setup
  1. Area: 15x15 yard area marked with cones
  2. Team Red: 4 red outfield players start spaced evenly around the perimeter of the area as attackers
  3. Team Blue: 2 blue outfield players start together near the centre of the area as defenders
  4. Equipment: 4 cones marking the corners of the 15x15 yard area, several balls scattered around the area for quick restarts
Instructions
  1. Attackers aim to keep possession of the ball as long as possible.
  2. Defenders try to intercept or force mistakes to gain possession.
  3. On winning possession, defenders return the ball to attackers.
  4. Rotate roles frequently to ensure balanced practice.
Coaching Points
  • Encourage constant communication among players.
  • Focus on a good first touch to maintain control.
  • Keep your head up to scan for passing options.
  • Utilize space effectively by moving the ball quickly.
  • Deliver accurate and well-timed passes.
  • Use your first touch to change angles and create space.
  • Maintain constant movement to offer passing options.
  • Receive passes with the furthest foot to open space.
  • Keep body shape optimal for receiving and passing.
  • Form supportive angles by positioning in triangles and diamonds.
  • Support teammates by understanding passing priorities.
  • Observe and adapt the session for continuous improvement.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the area to increase pressure on attackers.
2. Limit the number of touches per player.
3. Introduce a time limit for possession retention.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the playing area.
2. Allow more players to join the attacking team.
3. Remove the immediate pass-back rule after defenders win possession.
