Instructions
- The goalkeeper begins with the ball and distributes it to an attacker moving into the middle zone.
- Attackers aim to create scoring opportunities within their zone while defenders work to intercept or redirect play.
- Players must remain in their respective zones initially before transitioning based on play.
- Encourage quick distribution from the goalkeeper and early position adjustments from attackers.
Coaching Points
- Communicate clearly and continuously.
- Maintain concentration throughout the drill.
- Stay light on your feet and ready to move.
- Make play predictable for defenders.
- Nearest defender should close down the ball quickly.
- Keep the defensive unit compact.
- Aim to win the ball when an opportunity arises.
- Cover attacking players consistently.
- Speed and angle of approach are crucial.
- Defenders should jockey with staggered feet for balance.
- Use intelligent 1v1 defending skills to control attackers.
- Balance aggression with control during 1v1 situations.
- Communicate with teammates and the goalkeeper.
- Recognize when to pressure and when to drop back.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the number of attackers to 4 in each zone.
2. Reduce the width of the defensive zone to challenge defenders.
3. Limit defenders to only intercept passes without tackling directly.
Make it easier:
1. Start with a 3v3 setup before transitioning to 3v2.
2. Allow defenders to move into the middle zone to intercept before attackers settle.
3. Make the neutral zone wider to give defenders more reaction time.
