Equipment
- Cones to define the 20x20 yard playing area
- Cones to mark 1x1 Islands
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
- Group: 2 blue outfield players (Islanders) start spaced randomly inside the area
- Neutral: 2 black players (Sharks) start spaced randomly inside the area, ready to begin tagging on the coach's command
- Equipment: cones marking the corners of the 20x20 yard area, 3 cones marking 1x1 yard Islands scattered randomly inside the area
Instructions
- On the coach's command, the Sharks begin attempting to tag the Islanders.
- Tagged Islanders become Sharks and assist in tagging others.
- Islanders can find safety on an Island, but must vacate if another Islander wants to use it.
- Continue until most Islanders are tagged or a set duration has elapsed.
Coaching Points
- Promote good communication among players to improve safety and coordination.
- Gradually increase intensity to adequately raise heart rate and warm muscles.
- Monitor players' movements and body language for focus and proper form.
- Ensure players hydrate regularly throughout the activity.
- Highlight the importance of effective warm-ups for performance readiness.
- Maintain a fun, engaging atmosphere to keep players motivated.
- Ensure the warm-up aligns with the main session's goals when possible.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the number of Islands to increase difficulty.
2. Add more Sharks to increase pressure on Islanders.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the number of Islands to offer more safe zones for Islanders.
2. Decrease the number of Sharks to reduce pressure on Islanders.
