Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Balls
  • Cones
  • Goal with marked zones
Setup
  1. Area: 30x20 yard area marked with cones
  2. Goals: One goal at one end of the area, with shooting zones marked by cones inside the goalposts
  3. Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player starts with the ball on the right side of the area, at the end furthest from the goal
  4. Team Red: 1 red outfield player starts as the opponent, positioned centrally in the area facing the blue player
  5. Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 30x20 yard area, cones marking the shooting zones inside the goalposts, balls for the ball-carrying player
Instructions
  1. The player with the ball dribbles towards the opponent and stops the ball using the sole of their foot.
  2. Continue their run, transitioning into a defender as the opponent gains possession.
  3. The new ball handler breaks into the space, aiming to shoot at the goal upon entering the shooting zone.
  4. Players aim for the marked corners of the goal for accuracy.
  5. Repeat the cycle, switching roles each time.
Coaching Points
  • Encourage players to dribble with heads up to assess the defender's position.
  • Focus on a precise sole stop for seamless possession.
  • Emphasize rapid transition between attacking and defending roles.
  • Push players to sprint into open space immediately after gaining possession.
  • Challenge attackers to aim for goal corners to enhance precision.
  • Maintain composure before shooting to improve scoring consistency.
  • Promote player communication, particularly during defensive transitions.
  • Stress balance and precision in tight shot situations.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the shooting zone to increase difficulty.
2. Add a time limit for transitions and shots to increase pressure.
Make it easier:
1. Widen the distance between defenders.
2. Increase the size of the shooting zone to allow easier shots.
3. Allow a walking pace for defensive transitions to reduce pressure.
