- Balls
- Cones for boundaries and corner squares
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
- Group: 4 players divided into four equal teams of 1, each starting in their team's 2x2 yard corner square
- Equipment: cones marking the corners and boundary of the 20x20 yard area, cones marking each team's 2x2 yard corner square, 5 balls placed in the centre of the playing area
Instructions
- On the coach's signal, the first player from each team races to the center to retrieve a ball.
- They dribble the ball back to their team’s corner and the next player from the team goes.
- Continue until all balls are collected.
- The team with the most balls in their corner wins.
Coaching Points
- Encourage good communication and teamwork.
- Focus on dribbling technique and first touch control.
- Monitor player body language and maintain engagement.
- Begin gradually, allowing skill execution to be more dynamic over time.
- Hydration breaks are essential to maintain energy.
- Ensure warm-up exercises are relevant and prepare players physically and mentally.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the size of the playing area.
2. Require players to use their non-dominant foot when dribbling.
3. Add obstacles like cones in the path.
Make it easier:
1. Decrease the size of the playing area.
2. Allow players to move without dribbling but carrying the ball.
3. Increase the number of balls to reduce competition for resources.
