Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones to mark the grid.
  • Enough cones to create a grid of 4-yard squares.
Setup
  1. Area: 20x20 yard grid divided into 4-yard squares using cones
  2. Group: 1 player per 4-yard square, each starting inside their own assigned square
  3. Equipment: Cones used to outline the 20x20 yard grid and mark each individual 4-yard square
Instructions
  1. Players enter their assigned square.
  2. A coach calls out a letter of the alphabet.
  3. Players dribble or move within their square to form the letter using their feet.
  4. Once confident, extend the drill by having players spell out short words or names using the same method.
Coaching Points
  • Encourage players consistently.
  • Emphasize spatial awareness within each square.
  • Ensure every player is active and involved.
  • Let the game naturally facilitate learning.
  • Adapt the session to be age-appropriate and fun.
  • Observe that players understand space and movement.
  • Prioritize enjoyment and creativity in the activity.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Have players spell out full words or names quickly.
2. Reduce the size of each square to 3 yards.
3. Introduce time limits for completing each letter.
Make it easier:
1. Allow players to walk instead of dribble.
2. Use larger squares for more space.
3. Provide visual aids or outlines for letter shapes.
