Equipment
- Cones
- Two goals
- Two goalkeepers or simulation equipment
- Footballs
Setup
- Area: 40x35 yard area marked with cones
- Goals: One goal centred on each end line
- Team Red: 4 red outfield players start inside the area
- Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line of the red team's goal
- Team Blue: 4 blue outfield players start inside the area
- Team Blue GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line of the blue team's goal
- Neutral: 2 black neutral wingers, one positioned wide on each sideline
- Equipment: Cones marking the corners and sidelines of the 40x35 yard area, two goals on each end line, footballs for play
Instructions
- Teams play a regular 4v4 game aiming to score in the opponent's goal.
- Encourage the use of neutral wingers to create width and overloads.
- Neutral players can move along the sideline but cannot enter the field.
- Goalkeepers should remain alert to shots from various angles and distances.
Coaching Points
- Players should be in good set positions with balanced body weight.
- Utilization of correct techniques when executing passes and shots.
- Players must communicate effectively on and off the ball.
- Maintain a positive attitude and readiness for shots from different angles.
- Goalkeepers should cover all shooting angles effectively.
- Quick reactions and anticipation of the ball’s flight are crucial.
- Use proper footwork to move laterally and adjust positioning swiftly.
- Understanding the importance of starting position to narrow angles.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the playing area to increase pressure.
2. Limit the number of touches wingers can take before passing.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the playing area for more space.
2. Allow wingers to enter the field momentarily to create more attacking options.
3. Provide additional time for players to make decisions by playing with fewer defenders.
