Equipment
- - Cones (marking the 20x20 area and center line)
- - Soccer balls
- - Bibs (nine red, three blue)
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones, divided by a center line into two halves
- Team Red: 9 red outfield players, 3 positioned centrally in one half as the possession trio and 6 further reds spaced evenly around the outside perimeter of the grid as support, split 3 per half and locked to their designated side
- Team Blue: 3 blue outfield players positioned centrally in the same half as the red trio, forming the 3v3 contest
- Equipment: cones marking the 20x20 area and the center line
Instructions
- Red central trio maintains possession using support from outside players.
- Reds aim to play forward, receive a second ball, and switch direction.
- Blues attempt to win possession; if successful, play restarts with the reds.
- Rotate roles regularly to ensure all players experience different positions.
Coaching Points
- Communicate effectively to maintain team coherence.
- Utilize good angles and distances for support.
- Maintain a quality first touch and keep your head up.
- Execute accurate, timely, and disguised passes.
- Choose the right passing technique and direction.
- Keep moving to create space and passing options.
- Rotate observation roles outside the grid for feedback.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the playing area to increase difficulty.
2. Limit the number of touches each player can have.
3. Adjust the number of defenders to create a numerical disadvantage for reds.
Make it easier:
1. Enlarge the playing area to allow more space for control.
2. Increase the number of outside players available for support.
3. Allow players to move freely across center lines.
