Equipment
- Poles or cones for goals
- Soccer balls, including spare balls
- Cones for marking the field
Setup
- Area: 30x40 yard area divided into two halves
- Goals: Three 5-yard-wide goals made of poles or cones spaced evenly across the center line
- Team Red: 6 red outfield players start spaced evenly across their own half
- Team Blue: 6 blue outfield players start spaced evenly across their own half
- Equipment: Poles or cones marking the three central goals, cones marking the perimeter of the 30x40 area, spare soccer balls scattered around the perimeter for quick restarts
Instructions
- Teams compete in a 6v6 format.
- Players score by dribbling through any of the three central goals.
- After a goal, both teams sprint to the opposite half to restart play.
- A minimum of three passes are required before attempting to score after transitioning.
Coaching Points
- Encourage constant communication among players.
- Ensure supporting players maintain good angles and distances.
- Emphasize a good first touch and playing with heads up.
- Focus on movement and quickly offering support.
- Stress the quality of passing: accuracy, timing, and disguise.
- Teach discerning between passing to feet versus passing to space.
- Develop quick passing and wall passes within the grid.
- Encourage players to feint and off-balance defenders effectively.
- Ensure players assess, decide, and execute their actions promptly.
- Foster fluency in passing and enhance decision-making.
- Train players to create clear passing pathways for teammates.
- Highlight the importance of varying pass selection techniques.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the area to increase difficulty.
2. Add more goals to defend and attack.
3. Require more passes before an attempt at goal.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the area for more space to maneuver.
2. Use fewer goals, focusing on a specific attack area.
3. Allow scoring after fewer passes post-transition.
